What does QRMP mean in GST?

QRMP stands for Quarterly Return Monthly Payment. It allows eligible taxpayers to file GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B every quarter, instead of every month, while paying tax monthly.

Who can opt for the QRMP Scheme?

If your aggregate turnover in the previous financial year was ₹5 crore or less, and you’re registered for GSTR-3B, you can opt for QRMP.

What if my turnover crosses ₹5 crore during the year?

If your turnover exceeds ₹5 crore during any quarter, you’ll automatically become ineligible for QRMP from the next quarter onward.

Is QRMP mandatory for eligible taxpayers?

No, it’s completely optional. You can choose it if it fits your business needs.

How do I opt into the QRMP scheme?

Log in to the GST portal and go to Services > Returns > Opt-in for QRMP Scheme. You can opt in between the 1st of the second month of the previous quarter and the last day of the first month of the relevant quarter.

Can I opt out of QRMP later?

Yes, you can switch back to monthly filing during the allowed period for option change.

What happens if I haven't filed my last GSTR-3B?

You can’t opt for QRMP unless your last due GSTR-3B has been filed.

How are QRMP taxpayers classified by default?

A: Based on your past return filing behavior:

·       Filed GSTR-1 quarterly with turnover up to ₹1.5 crore → Deemed QRMP filer.

·       Filed GSTR-1 monthly → Deemed monthly filer.

But you can still change the default option during the notified period.

What is IFF (Invoice Furnishing Facility)?

IFF lets QRMP taxpayers upload B2B invoices in the first two months of the quarter. This ensures buyers get their Input Tax Credit (ITC) on time.

Is IFF mandatory?

No, IFF is optional. But using it helps your buyers claim ITC promptly.

What kind of invoices can be uploaded in IFF?

Only B2B invoices, including debit and credit notes. The maximum value allowed is ₹50 lakh per month.

Can I report B2C invoices in IFF?

No. B2C invoices should be reported only in the quarterly GSTR-1 return.

How do I pay tax every month under QRMP?

Use Form PMT-06 by the 25th of the next month. You can pay using:

·       Fixed Sum Method (FSM) – Pay 35% of last quarter’s cash payment.

·       Self-Assessment Method (SAM) – Calculate actual tax for the month and pay.

What is the 35% Challan Rule?

Under FSM:

·       If you filed GSTR-3B quarterly, pay 35% of last quarter’s tax paid in cash.

·       If you filed GSTR-3B monthly, pay 100% of tax paid in the last month of the previous quarter.

Can I pay less under the Self-Assessment Method?

Yes, under SAM you can calculate actual tax payable for each month using your books and GSTR-2B.

Is interest payable under QRMP?

Yes, interest is @18% per annum in these cases:

·       If PMT-06 is not paid by 25th of the next month.

·       If the actual tax payable is more than 35% and the difference is not paid by GSTR-3B due date.

Is late fee applicable in QRMP?

Late fee applies only if quarterly GSTR-3B is filed late:

·       ₹50/day (₹25 CGST + ₹25 SGST)

·       ₹20/day (₹10 CGST + ₹10 SGST) for Nil returns

·       Maximum: ₹5,000

No late fee for delayed PMT-06 payment.

How do I claim Input Tax Credit (ITC) in QRMP?

QRMP taxpayers claim ITC the same way as others—based on GSTR-2B. But if you're using IFF, buyers will see your invoices sooner, helping them claim ITC faster.

When is GSTR-3B due under QRMP?

Depends on your state:

·       22nd of the next month: For states like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, etc.

·       24th of the next month: For states like Delhi, Punjab, UP, West Bengal, etc.

What if I miss uploading invoices in IFF?

Don’t worry. You can still upload them in GSTR-1 at the end of the quarter. IFF is just a facility for faster invoice sharing—not mandatory.

What are common issues with QRMP Scheme?

A few challenges:

·       Choosing FSM vs SAM every month

·       Managing B2B vs B2C segregation

·       Forgetting to upload in IFF

·       Reconciliation of sales data with IFF and GSTR-1

Can I manage QRMP for multiple GSTINs together?

Yes, but each GSTIN must be opted in separately, and you’ll need to manage IFF, challans, and return filing for each one.
